So I have moved my two female platys to my 20g with the tigers so they stop breeding. In my 29g I now have a GBR(soon to have a female as well), 2 male platys + 1 juvie male platy, 3 otos and 4 corys + a few shrimp.

I was thinking of getting a school(~6) of neon tetras or similar size tetra/rasbora. Would this work?

Tank has 300gph of flow(185gph of that is my Ecco 2236 rest is powerhead) and heavily planted with a pH of 7. Weekly 33% water changes. Thanks!

I think it'd be ok

Harlequin rasboras are nice, but yeah I think that'd work

I agree with the rasboras - I have a school of 7 in my 29 and they are beautiful.

Neons stay around the bottom, so I would also do a school that stays higher in the tank.

I do love my dwarf neon rainbows - actively schooling, very flashy, exciting feeders. You'll love'm.

Get either one but get more corys so they are in better numbers. At least 3 more!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have to find a new source of them since it seems the corys from the Petco by me mysteriously die. I used to have 7 and have lost 3. I am hesitant to get more from them since there is no apparent reason for the death. One day they just start swimming like a football, have sunken bellies and die that night. But the fish store an hour away has much healthier fish and I'll try there. thumbs2:

Well the rasboras are out. I read that they are jumpers and I have open top tanks.:scry: So it looks like it'll be tetras.

Be careful with the neons. The further the neons get from a pH of 6 the shorter life spans they tend to have. This is just what I've heard, I don't know for a fact, but I remember getting that from a pretty credible person.

I must disagree. They go everywhere in my tank.

In terms of rasboras jumping, i've never heard of that - am i mistaken?

Yes, not to mention that most are overpriced at the petco near me. Comone on..$5\each for peppered corys? $15 for 3 corys? Does that sound unreasonable to anyone else besides me?

I agree - if someone that lived near me wanted to go in one some from Aquabid i'd do it in a heartbeat

Yes. They can and will jump. I've had a couple in the last week jump at food, clear the surface, and hit the plastic on my canopy (1" above water line), and come back down dead from hitting the canopy so hard. They will jump.

Rob, I've never read about it either and I do an appropriate amount of research making purchases. But they do it. I've seen it happen with my own eyeballs as it happens mostly at feeding time.

I got the info from the AC's profile. This is why doing research helps! Otherwise my cats would get a few treats.

Most fish will jump, so its always best to have a cover on the tank.

4.2 to 7.0

You have your facts "in a row"

I breed 'em (naturally *for the forum - lol) and do so in Ph 5.5.
