i was reading the other threads on here about platys getting ready to pop. my two red wag platys are looking mighty ripe and i know the time is coming but are there any visual signs that i would see on the fish to know when she will be having a fry? i have bought a breeder box for them but i dont know when to place her in it. my camera has kinda/sorta been misplaced or lost so pictures are not an option right now. can anyone give me any verbal direction?

i would greatly appreciate it!!!

thank you
shawn

From what I have heard, they become very sluggish, begin to grow around the belly area, and just look overall like they will have fry. As for the timing, you will have to ask someone else, as I'm not sure at all.

She will get almost square looking. You may see a dark spot by her vent from all of the fry's eyes as they get ready to depart.

well, she really does look pregnant but its all about the timing. how long can she live in a breeder box? i dont want to put her in if she has like a week to go. but im also not here during the day to keep an eye on her

It is a tough call. A ten gallon or even a 5 for her would solve your problem nicely.

I have the exact same problem. My platy seems ready to pop. But it has been 3 days, yet nothing.

Here is my link:n00b questions by gau ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.])

I have got a 3 way breeder from petsmart and placed her in it today..(Just thought of giving her some extra space with 3 way, instead of 2)

How long might my wait be? Even I dont wish to stress her. By the way, I can see her womb having a bluish black tinge on the edges at her back.
