I picked up three peppered corys today, more will come soon, just didn't want to overwhelm the tank. I have that colored gravel and i fear it may be too sharp, since i've seen people say it can harm their feeler things. I want to put in sand, but i have a whisper HOB filter, and im afraid it will suck the sand in and ruin it. Any ideas? and what do corys like as far as set up?

I've used an HOB filter in a tank with sand in it, and it didn't suck the sand in. I'd go ahead and replace your gravel with sand, as that will be better for your cories.

If it is epoxy gravel it will be fine.

You can also put a sponge on your intake to prevent sand from getting in the filter.

There is a million posts here about how its done! lol
BUT
Play sand and pool filter sand are the cheapest! Pool filter sand is a white color. All sands need to be washed and the best way is in a bucket with a hose.Simply add about 4" of sand and turn on the hose. You can use the water or a stick to move the sand around. The more you turn it over the cleaner it will become.Just let the dust flow out over the sides.Do this until you can move the sand around and it does not cloud up much.
Put your fish in a clean bucket and empty the tank.Add the wet sand to the tank.Add the decor and start to add water.Pouring it onto a plate or large rock will stop the water from disturbing the sand too much.Less cloudy. When the temp is correct add the fish and turn on the filter.I placed an aqua clear filter sponge over my intake. It will save your filter if you have a worry about sand .:22:

Just save your existing filter media, don't worry about the water.
