I'm using white CaribSea Aquarium Sand in my Angel tank and I've noticed that my ph is hovering around 7.6-7.8. (Not a big deal I know...) but the two other tanks I have use gravel the ph is between 7-7.2. Water from the tap is 7.
I use this in my main tank as well and I have the same ph in that tank. I had assumed it was the DIY background that caused the higher ph. (was an expected result because of the concrete)

Has anyone else who uses this stuff noticed a higher ph?

If you mean use this stuff as the sand, I have noticed that various types of sand do give high pH.

As for the changes in pH between your tanks, do you have anything in the other tanks which may alter them, lower them I should say? Like wood or anything like that?

As for the concrete I can't say. With the lime in it more than likely it would heighten the pH up.

ok never mind... not the sand. Just tested my other tanks again and they are all 7.6ish. I tested the tap I set out last night and it's 7.8. So I think something changed in the city water... love the notice... :tappingfoot: :banghead: :bs:

are these freshwater angels? the caribesea sand and concrete backgrounds you describe are for salt water use if i'm not mistaken. if you want your water i would use 7.0 buffer [powder] to get it there and keep it so.

sorry, for the buffer to work get rid of the concrete and caribesea.
