??? you can do that? I just saw a post about it and wonder if it is a good idea. And should I just leave a bucket of water out for mosquito larva or any good idea to raise the larva for ma fishes to eat them. I would mostly use them as a treat.

Yeah a shallow container with standing water should do the trick.

LOL he will love them!! I think it is better to have your own water source as opposed to getting them out a stream or whatever, that way you can control what all is in there.

Umm 2-4 inches should be fine. I have seen them growing in less and more. LOL They are nt very picky really!

You can usually leave a shallow pan with water in a shady/humid area to catch mosquito larvae. You can feed them to the fish, although some people don't for fear of introducing 'unknowns' into the fish. Just be careful not to leave the pan in the house for too long or you might end up with mosquitoes in the house.

lol that would suck I will probably keep them in a jar or somthing and feed the ones that are about to turn into skeeters. Just so I don't get eaten alive.

I've been trying to do this since April, haven't got a single mosquito larva!

At first I had an aluminum pie plate I weighed down with rocks, it was probably too shallow and aluminum does weird things underwater (it grew white fuzzy fungus and holes started appearing!) Now I have a much deeper bucket, probably too deep.

Haven't caught a single mosquito larva.

The city may be doing a mosquito control program around here, apparently residents have been pestering them about it. Last year there were lots of mosquitoes, we're near a swampy area, but this year not a single one.

We have a plastic wash tub outside and it's full of mosquito larva. Well, a little less full now. :fish2:

The Mollies, Platties and Danios tore them up! Even the Molly fry were chasing them but, chickened out when they got to them. I saw a Rummy Nose Tetra eat one too.

What I noticed is that if the larva were still, the fish didn't mess with them too much. Once they moved though, the chase was on.
