View Full Version : Contaminated Decorations?

I bought a nice ceramic piece for my fish tank thinking that the pice tag would just peel off. However, it was actually glued on. I had to soak it for an hour or so in order to get the price tag off.

The glue is still on the back of the ceramic piece though, and I don't know if it's non-toxic or not. Will the chemicals will contaminate my tank and stress (or kill:scry: ) my fish? Should I be worried? Or is it fine once the glue is dried?

I really like the piece I bought so if there are any suggestions as to how I can still use it if the glue is a problem are welcome as well!

Eh I doubt its toxic, but better safe than sorry - take a wire brush and do a bit of scrubbing

I really do not know if the adhesive is toxic. You can use vinegar to remove the sticky stuff, then just rinse it very well. It smells horrible, but it works usually. Rubbing alcohol works too.

I doubt it will cause any toxicity. I have some left over tape residue in my 29g tank that I keep forgetting to take off and all it does is attract algae growth like mad.

I agree with Gayle... but I think your best bet is to use acetone, and then rinse with lots of running water...

Thanks for the ideas. I'm glad that I don't have to get rid of the piece.
