We have 4 Sunburst Platties. 2 male and 2 female. They have done well. A few days ago, we added 3 Red Wag Platties. All 3 are male. So far, no one is being aggressive. All the Platties are loosely schooling with each other at times.
Could this become an aggression problem? Could the Sunburst and Red Wags cross breed?

They will cross breed. You should have more females than males. The males are non stop and can seriously stress the girls.

Well, due to a miscount on Harlequin Rasboras (4 not 5) and the death of a Long Fin Red Minor Tetra (runt of the bunch who struggled from day one, the others are doing splendidly) we do have room for 1 or 2 more fish.
I'd like to know more about mixing and matching Platties. Does that work out OK?

They are all the same species. They will not care. The male/female ratio is what matters for happy fish.

I love the platys. You are supposed to have more females than males.
I had a tank with Mickey Mouse, Twin Bar, Sunset Wag, and I think Rainbow Platys (they are kinda brown/copper colored on the tail, but thier middle is all different colors (very pretty). One time I mixed two swordtails in as well, an almost electric yellow one and a beautiful orange one!
Platys make a great colorful tank!

We have a platty tank going now that I love. From what I understand most platty types will cross breed, although the resulting fry can be a real genetic mix. Having more females will help produce fry, however from my experience, the other adults in the tank will eat the fry if you don't remove the female when she is close to dropping them.

Thanks.
We're not tying to breed, though we know it's very likely. Just want them to be socially comfortable and want to do it with a variety of the same species. Glad to hear that works.

We have Sunburst, Mickey Mouse, and Redwags all in with our Mollies and Rasboras and everyone gets along fine. See my sig for breakdown. There are 1 male and 1 female of each and I have not seen the males stressing out the females. We have had some fry and until yesterday were unable to catch them before they "disappeared". My wife (Chazbot72) has a post with the pics of the fry. Good luck! IMO different platy make a very nice active tank.

We also have Rasbora. 4 Harlequin Rasbora. Their orange and blue colors have really come out over the last month.
