:22: I've just installed a new Fluval 305 External filter. I used the supplied media but when I was in my local Aquatics shop, I was told to dump the Fluval stuff including all the carbon and replace it with Eheim Media (in every basket!).
Does this sound like a good idea? I'm running a 260 litre tank with a few plants. Mostly stocked with Barbs (Gold; Ruby and Green Tiger) and a few Silver Tips.
Cheers

Its always good to add more media as they never seem to come with enough! lol
I don't know about throwing yours out but I would definately add to it.
Some of us use carbon daily and some of use it to remove meds only.
That choice is yours. You can add whatever media will fit.I aded some ac rings to my Rena xP3.
Stuff what you can in there.

Carbon is only needed to remove chems after a med treatment. The most important part of a filter is the bio media, honestly any media inside a filter is bio capable, even the sponges and the mechanical becomes bio after a bit.Make it half and half mech and bio, that will work great.During a cleaning dont throw any of the old away but simply rinse it out with non chlorinated water and put it back in service.
