hey guys.

is it safe to feed my DIY CO2 into the intake tube of my canister filter? my thoughts are that by going through the entire canister filter, the CO2 will be better dissolved than if i just let the bubbles go up from the airstones as happened in the past.

will doing that break the impeller? could the extra CO2 hurt my nitrifying bacteria in the filter? keep in mind this will be with two 2liter DIY bottles, so barely 5ppm if that of CO2...

thanks for the helpthumbs2:

That is how I disperse my CO2. I have been doing it for years, with no problems or damage to the filters. The plants do great.

I did that with my FX5 and had problems with it collecting too much co2 around the impeller.

What you can try is build yourself a DIY reactor and make sure it runs through that first before getting to your filter. Nothing fancy, just something to break up the bubbles some.

Many people do this and with DIY you'll probably be fine. It depends on the media you have in there if it will cause a problem with the impeller. Fine media like filter floss will trap the bubbles and prevent large bubbles from reaching the impeller. If you have nothing but sponge, however, you may get burps from time to time where the impeller chews through a big bubble.

And if you do this method, you must, must have a separator between the yeast mixture in your tank. Otherwise you risk sucking the yeast mixture into your tank.

I doubt it will do anything to your biofilter since plenty of oxygenated water will still flow through.
