Excuse me if this doesn't go in this topic.
Well my powder blue Gourami is looking lonely in it vast 10 gal for its size.
What fish will be best for a tank this size?
I was looking into NeedleFish... would they be to aggressive?

I would take a picture of my tank but my camera is water logged from dropping it in my turtle tank. (lonnggg story)

My 10gal has fake plants about ummm 5, big round river bed rocks (dollar coin size) for easy bottom cleaning, Penguin 100 BIO-Wheel filtration system,
and one powder blue Gourami.

Im just looking for tank mates, thanks!

You could add some dwarf corys or some neon tetras!
There is no way a needlefish will fit in there safely.

Ya I was looking at those! Really cool little guys! How many could a person buy with still having room in the tank for a fish or more?

The needlefish would likely be too large at adult size to live properly in that tank. A school of 5 or 6 small fish could work out though if you stay in the 1.5 inch adult size range. Harlequin Rasbora, Neon, Cardinal or glowlite tetra could work as well. You need to be fully cycled before stocking these... especially if its the neon or cardinals. They are really sensitive to cycling.

At that point you would be fully stocked IMO.

Maybe 5-6 female Platies? No big difference between males and females, so you won't be missing out on anything. They come in all different colors, so pick your favorite. They are very hardy, and will get along with your Gourami.

Or maybe just another Gourami?

I say:
The Gourami you already have
3 female Platies
4 Cories

That may be pushing your stock into overload though... YMMV

Corys need to be kept in groups of 6. If you are planning on having the gourami & neons/something & corys - then you should have got the dwarf gourami, and the corys will need to be of the pygmy variety - all others just get too big for a 10g.

If you wanna keep your non-dwarf gourami, then i'd say you'll have to do either corys or neons/something

I'm pretty sure Powder blue is a variation of dwarf gouramis.

Wait no, I'm positive. :ssmile:

Then add like 6 - 10 neons. Around 8 should be fine.

Endler's livebearers is a fantastic option! 2 males 6 females. Be warned however, they do produce a fair amount of babies but the gourami will eat them all.

You could combine both worlds by adding 6 neons and 3 female Endler's.

Where do you get your fish?

If you only go to petsmart or something, then your options are limited.

Then i defer to you on the gourami

I disagree on the numbers tho.

The OP shouldnt do more than 1 gourami, 6 neons, and 6 pygmy corys

I wasn't even mentioning pygmy cories, they are hard to find.:ssmile:

I also edited my post a bit.

Oh, and I'm going to say no to the glassfish, btw.

Yeah i'm not thinking thats a great idea, unless the OP doesnt get anymore fish - they are territorial fish, and 10g is a bit small

Yea I know. But he can always invest in a bigger tank to get more fish. And I realize its a bit to small.

But the OP hasn't mentioned getting a bigger tank, and asked for stocking advice for this tank not a future one. I agree getting a bigger tank always gives more options, but till he brings it up - I just dont think two gouramis is a sound option

I'm not fond of Neon's because they are known to be weak.

You buy 10, and probably only 8 will survive.

I wish you could buy those little red ear turtles. I'd say stick one of those in there.
