Last but not least, I scored some shrimp and decided that my fry tank will now be a shrimp tank! If I am really lucky some will breed, will have to find out about that and I will have a constant source for my puffers. Pics of shrimp are really hard to take so I will let ya know, I scored 4 amano shrimp which I paid $2.43 each for, 3 cherry shrimp which are teeny tiny right now, can't wait to watch them grow for $2.25 each and 2 crystal red shrimp which I would have loved to get more but those guys were $9 a piece......just about everything in the store was 25% off because he is closing at the end of May, although there may be a buyer. His website is http://www.alloddballaquatics.com/
And of course the other visit we made as you will see in other posts was to Elmers Aquarium http://elmersaquarium.com/. It was kinda neat to go into Elmers since I have used their website as a source of information regularly. I only purchased some feeder crayfish and some floating wisteria, neither of which I have found locally. I will need to find a supplier for crayfish soon though for the new puffer!
Here are the only shots of the shrimp that even remotely came out.

I had been talking about starting a shrimp tank just before Christmas and had been browsing petshrimp.com to look at them. This way I didn't have to order anything, I was pretty happy.

I have heard that cherry, amano and ghost shrimp are all relatively easy to breed, but crystal reds are very difficult (as well as being harder to take care of), so I guess it's a good thing that they were so expensive huh? A $9 treat for puffers... :)

These guys will NOT be puffer food, but if I can get any of them to breed I will feed the excess rather than buy from the petstore. As good as I can say my local PSP is, I would rather breed my own feeders. Crayfish are another thing I have to read up on for breeding, crunchies are necessary to puffers teeth and my new suvatti will need plenty!
I have heard the red crytals are hard to breed, but if there is a way, I will try my darndest. And I offer this promise....if I ever get baby crystal reds I will ship them to my friends here on AC for the cost of shipping only first and foremost. It was hard to swallow $9 per shrimp, I wanted about 1/2 dozen of them. I may contact the store owner and tell him if he can't get rid of them I will take them off his hands at an even bigger discount if he wants to ship them or meet me partway. If he doesn't find a buyer he will need to get rid of everything that is left and I would love to have more!!!

I have only ever seen ghost shrimp around here also. I have seens signs "coming soon" for others, but since those shops are an hour away I never make it back.
The Amano are supposed to be awesome at algae eating and I have seen all the shrimps busy munching away in their new home.

From what I have read, amano shrimp are really only limited to eating hair algae and detritus, whereas cherry shrimp will eat a much greater variety (though it still doesn't eat pesky beard algae)
