Me and my friends went down to a creek near my house today. We caught some fish and tadpoles. My friends wanted to keep them so we filled up an empty sand box with water put rocks in and put everything we caught in it. Now here are some details.
25 Tadpoles- I saw the parents. They are not those huge american bullfrogs but max out at 5 inches.
25 Common Shiners They are in good health and are about 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/2 inches.
Now what do I feed the shiners? I am pretty good with tadpoles and know there requirements. The sandbox is 4 feet long one foot wide and 8 inches deep. It is only filled up 4 inches. I really need to get an aquarium for these guys.:22:

Cer you should have set the tank up first.I would be surprised if they make through the night!Have you got a battery operated air pump?

I would set them free, set up a tank and then go out and get some!IMO :22:

Sorry bud! I hate being the bearer of bad news.
I always have to do it to my kids too.
The birds might even get them before you get back in the morning.
Thats easy pickins!

Ok. How big would a fish tank have to be for 3-4 tadpoles and 5-7 shiners?

Anything you can get fast!
I would go for a twenty if possible but a ten will work in a pinch!
What have you got?

Should I buy another ten? Or when I move my fish to a bigger tank should I put them in my ten gallon?

I'd say b...

but it depends when you are getting a bigger tank. if its not in the next 24 hrs, i'd return the fish to the river - and you can always go get them again when you better suited to housing them

gives you another excuse to go fishing!

Just release them. You should never take a fish out of the wild and keep it, or any animal for that matter. Sorry.

...sorry for the thread jack but...

Aren't some of the commonly kept fish found primarily in the wild? Then shipped off to various LFS and bought by those in this community?

lol, exactly. many commonly sold species cant even breed in captivity! Might as well never own an aquarium!

Not to mention, thats half the fun of growing up. i caught so many animals and kept them when i was little, it was a blast! Animals were put here for OUR pleasure
