Keeping Bettas at room Temp

I know that many Bettas are kept at room temperature, what effect does this have on them aver a long period?

all it really does is slow down their metabolism a bit.

If you are comfortable then so should he be. I keep my house at 70-72. Someone else might be happy with 60.

it slows them down, and increase the betta chance of catching something like an illness.
they also are less active and usally die younger,

Theyare tropical fish, but 21degrees centigrade/72degrees fahrenheit isn't cold, it is probably quite a normal temperature in some parts of the world were tropical fish live.

From fishing, i know that for most fish, every 10 degrees the temperature is under 80, their metabolism drops by 5%.

...bettas come from rather warm, shallow waters in Thailand...they need higher than 'average room temperature' to do well...

...although they can survive at room temperature...they won't thrive...

Believe me, just because your house is at 72 degrees does not mean in any way that you water is that temperature as well. My house is at a constant 65 degrees, but my goldfish tank (when I had it) was at something like 50. Of course, it didn't really matter for the fish because they are coldwater, and they did fine....but for bettas.... meh
