For the one or two of you that may remember, a moment of boredom & random surfing hatched the thought of a Spongebob-themed 29 gallon tank for my two little girls. Since then, I have got the tank cycled (fish-less), decorated with a number of Spongebob figures & houses (Bob's, Squidwards, and the Krusty Krab), and stocked it with a dozen Mickey Mouse platies (holding off on adding anything else for just a bit longer).
The fish were extremely shy for the first two days, but they have really "warmed up" to their new home over the past month. Now they swarm around like second graders hopped up on Pixie Sticks & Jolt Cola (much to the enjoyment of the girls), and they greedily scour the surface for food whenever someone ventures close to the tank.
However, within the past two days, one of the males has taken refuge in Spongebob's house. If coerced, he will leave for a short time, but he will generally return within a couple of minutes. When not sequestered in Bob's house, he generally finds someplace with less "traffic" and just hovers there. I cannot tell any outward signs that he is sick (scales seem fine, no noticeable bloating, etc.).
Any thoughts?
