My Honey Gourami (I call her "Honey" of course!) Is 1 inch, at the most, from tip of nose to tail. It was much smaller when I first bought it as a pair about a month ago (the other one just disappeared!)
Does anyone estimate the approx. age?
Also, it is very light colored with a little bit darker color at the edge of its tail fin.
I read that the males are darker, and all the pics of honeys I've seen, mine is no where near that dark. I'm trying to figure out if it is a he or she.
Do they get darker as they get older??

And one more thing...will she/he do ok by itself? I also have 4 baby angels that are the same size, and they seem fine....but they are all babies and I don't know what to expect in the future (if anything!)

Thanks for any info.

I'm still trying to get a good picture...so far I'm not having any luck.

There are a couple of different gourami commonly called "honey gourami", one gets bigger than the other. If this is what you have.....

than it is the same as what I have. I believe the other type of gourami called "honey" is paler, like a shimmery light gold color and does get bigger than these bright guys. I had 2, lost one, reasons unknown. This guy does get a darker coloration regularly of a bluish black color along his underside, and some across the top, not so much now that I have lost it's mate. They are very peaceful, mine topped out around 1.25 inches, maybe 1.5 inches. Will eat just about anything I throw in the tank, watch overly meaty diets as those aren't good for gourami. As for whether it will work with angels in the long term, that will depend on the angels. Ask Hobbs, she has one that is the mobster of angels and NOONE is allowed in it's territory/tank. Mine is with all peaceful fish.

I read an interesting article about how small angelfish that grow up with particular fish are less likely to be aggressive towards them, ie a dime sized angelfish that grew up in the same tank with neons would not eat them later on. Supposedly, it's because, over the months, the angelfish adapts to seeing flakes/pellets as the food source and not the neons. I experienced the same thing in my tank, as my angelfish, who I bought as dime-sized, grew up with cardinals and never bother them (save for a few tense hours when I bought 2 more the other day, but I think that was more out of curiosity and not actual aggression) Thus, I don't think it will be a problem with Honey Gouramis, but, like kimmers said, it can vary with the particular fish.

my honey is really peaceful, and gets along with my angels.

I must have the other one. Mine is much paler/lighter than yours. Beauty by the way!! Do you think mine is female?

I'm pretty sure it will get along with the angels, I was wondering more on whether I should get another Honey for it to pal around with.

That might be a good idea.

I have one honey gourami and it is prety mean when i feed the algae wafers. It chases all the other fish away from tem.

my honey is a loner. Only stays in the right half of the tank. My two angels are real buds. Theyre NEVER more than 3 inches away from eachother.

It's kind of funny, but I think my honey thinks he/she is an angel! Seems to watch what they are doing, them imitate them.
They also hang out together, so for now I'm sure they are ok. Only an identity crisis to worry about now :)

I want to know about the breeding and larval rearing of honey gourami and information about whatever research has been done in this field along with research papers.
