When you add ammonia up to 5 ppm, how long should it take for it to be converted to nitrates?

It depends on many many factors, like temp, whether you are seeding it, flow rate, oxygenation, etc, but the average seems to be like 2 weeks or so, assuming temps of 80-82ish. Of course, if you name starts with a L and ends with a N, then you should assume it will take a few months.

You added that same amount of ammonia that it took to get to 5 ppm each day right? Then 1/2 after the nitrite spike? Ammonia/nitrite normal now? Just making sure.

Well, i cycled it with the shrimp like fish whisperer said. i tested to see if it was done with ammonia. i added it up to 5ppm 25 minutes ago. How long should it take from then to be converted?

No clue with shrimp. I would personally be worried that the ammonia output from the shrimp would drop off over time, but meh.

My SW cycled by my LR, but i lost only 10% of the live part. I WAS going to get my sw fish today, but the place i was going to said the 2 for 1 deal was disposed of since they now have over 100$ SW fish.
