With other live rock in the tank it takes a few weeks for it to become live rock. The longer it is in there the more diverse it will become.

The base rock will start to "come alive" almost right away. If you already have LR, everything on it will constantly try to spread out. You won't see that the base rock is alive for a few weeks.

I have a nice center rock that was dry rock and I took 2lbs of live rock and planted around the dry rock.... I will post a pic in a few mins...
Also I noticed when I got home from work my live rock now looks like it has something growing out of it that wasnt there when I put it into the tank

If you have live sand in your tank it will take less time for your dead rock to become live.

Tank looks pretty cool with that big rock. Something to think about though.... when you do water changes it will expose the rock to the air. Quite a few SW creatures will die off if they hit they air (sponges etc.) Just something to think about.
