Hey guys!

I recently added two balloon mollies to my 20 G, as there was only one left out of the sickly LFS batch. I'm fairly certain that the one left is a female (due to dark "patch" behind the...anal fin(?)) also, her anal fin is the roundish shape of a female. Anyways, the two newbies look like males to me (pointier anal fins). However, one of them seems to be constantly chasing and nipping at the other. They both seem to basically ignore the female. Is male aggression in mollies normal? Or do you think I need to add more females or males? Thanks in advance!

Tank stats:

20 G
0 Nitrites, Ammonia, 10 ppm Nitrates
Lots of plants/hiding places
5 neons, 3 mollies (2 added today), 3 panda cories (added today)
About 79 degrees

PS: my tank is cycled out for the new fish. I was forced to take back some synodontis petricola today due to compatability problems with my tank (they were bought on poor advice).

the rule is 3 females to one male. Some chasing is normal.

I've heard that, but is male-male constant harassment normal?

How many females per male do you have?

The 3:1 ratio is what i need to know. How many m/f do you have?

Ditto:1:

You might need more females.

Sorry! I guess I wasn't clear! 2 males and one female. I'm just confused because one of the males is chasing the other, and they're both ignoring the female. Would more females solve this problem?

Thanks!

you have too many males per female. to keep both males, you need 5 more females.

what drumachine said. The ratio is incorrect.
