Hi,

Have taken a first reading from the water for the ph adn its at 9.0. Waaayy to high. Is this because there is no rock to start the buffering of tank??

Havent taken a GH/KH test yet as I am popping out this afternoon to get a kit for that adn the ammonia as my local local LFS have not got these, and ive got to go into the main town to get this.

Cheers

Kai

What is your specific gravity and what salt brand are you using? I bet you kh is high. New saltwater tanks usually have a high kh/ph to start with and then it drops as it matures. My tank had a 14 kh and a 8.6 ph for the first few months. Now its down to a 9 kh and 8 ph

During the first few weeks of my tank it was always around 8.6, sometimes 8.8. So, after a while it should stable itself, if it doesn't, then something is going on with your tank. Now my pH is usually around 7.8-8.0.
