Does salinity reduce during cycling??

The reason I ask that I set the tank up with the substrate and water, water pumps are on and the tank is now cycling now for 8 hours. The salinity reading is 1.026. Obviously this is high and I want it at 1.024.

Should I reduce it now or will it naturally reduce during cycling??

Thanks again..

Kai

You'll need to manually remove it yourself.

Salt doesn't evaporate..... ;)

Yeah, manual removal is the only way to get salt out. :) You can simply remove a small amount of water and just add back freshwater. I had to do this very thing with my tank when I first started it.

Small amounts of salt leave the system through skimmers and salt creep.

this is especially true if you have a bubble stone. it looked like it had snowed all over the edges of my aquarium hood!
