Hi all,
I was thinking since I lost my first batch of GBR eggs to the BN (i think) I wanted to divide the tank to give them a better chance. It's a 29g standard (not a bowfront) tank and I was wondering if pantyhose would work bc the fry wouldn't be able to get through it and there would still be plenty waterflow. What could be used as a frame? hmmmm...

I would stick with a staples tank divider that you can get in just about any lfs. That's just my two cents, though. Pantyhose might work, but you don't know what chemicals are on the pantyhose and what the pantyhose release into the water...

This is true...
But isn't it a common practice to use pantyhose for their filter intake?
I'm not sure, I just don't want the fry to wander over to the "wrong side of the tracks".

Hmmm...that IS true....well, I guess if you can find a frame that will not rust or harm the fish in the tank, it could work.

Upon my research, I was thinking I could just get some of that plastic grid stuff from the craft store, cut it to fit, and wrap the pantyhose over it? IDK...seems like it would work...in theory. lol

It should work. Go for it, just make sure it's clean before you put it in the tank. Rinse it with some hot water, and that should be good to put it in.

Sounds good to me....
If anyone else has any feedback, I'd love to hear it! :) Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about fry getting through the plastic grid, the parents will keep them corralled

I have some 10x10x1" blocks of foam that would work well with some eggcrate to make a divider/mattenfilter. Just cut the plastic a little narrower than the tank and wrap the foam around the ends to cushion/fill the space, then "sew" the foam into place with fishing line to secure it. Sort of a hybrid divider/sponge filter that would be great for a breeding tank. You can leave the fry where they are and move the parents to the other side of the divider.
