I went to feed my fish a few minutes ago and found one of my baby loaches dead. The water conditions are just fine, and all of the rest of them are ok. I actually think it is my fault. Yesterday when I was messing around with the tank I moved some things around, and as I set a rock down, kinda smushed it in to the substrate, one of the babies came swimming out from under it and hit the front on the tank really hard. After that it sat pretty well motionless half in the substrate and half up against the glass. I sorta poked at it after a few minutes, and it went swimming off and hid in the plants. I feel terrible!!! I think I crushed it. :scry:
don't worry gayle, all of us make mistakes like this all the time, don't let it get to you.
What kind of loach?

so sorry gayle... when i first got my tank home (got it from a friend complete with fish) i took everything out of it to clean. i thought i was being careful of the fish, but when i lifted up one of the decorations from the counter to rinse it off a serpea tetra had been inside of it and plopped out dead on the counter, i felt awful, here i was trying to save these fish and i killed one. :11: like others have said it happens to us all. no matter how careful we may be.
Sorry to hear about your problem.
It is a shame to hear about this terrible thing. But it from time to time happens to the best of us.

Gayle, you may not have crushed it. I had a Clown loach that got startled, "ran" into the glass, and died instantly....

I agree with Sharon, I also lost a loach the same way...it seems like the head is a soft point?
Sorry about your loss:scry:

Thank you all. I guess it could have been that as well. For such a little thing it did make a thud.

Sorry to hear that. I had an Hi fin Pagnasius and he would smash into the glass all the time when he got spooked one day he didnt get back up:( But it happens to everyone. So no need to be upset:)
I hate those kuhli loaches for those reasons, I will find them under everything, and they enjoy making a game out of it. I am sorry for your loss, but don't let it down you to much.
