I have had so many issues with the USPS that I've really given up any faith in them (I tend to Fed Ex stuff now). In the past, I've had to deal with the usual misdirected mail, lost packages, damaged packages, carriers leaving bundles in an inappropriate place (ie., in the middle of a stoop stairway on a bus stop corner), post office employees that were consistently so rude (ie., actually swearing and yelling at customers....I am not exaggerating) that it caused me to start using Fed Ex or doing USPS business online. There are just more screw ups than I can count, and more than I could list here if I had hours to type. In the past 7 years the employees and services of the postal system in NY have been nothing but an absolute nightmare.
Yesterday I spoke with an old friend in NY. During our conversation, I asked if she'd received a package that I'd sent to her in February. She was confused and said she never received any package. Since it was a clothing donation to her animal rescue group, I sent it USPS wanting to keep the shipping cost down (the small package cost $7 to ship as it was...I wasn't shelling out another $4 for tracking, confirmation, etc.). I just shook my head and chalked it up to the post office sucking once again.
This morning my phone rings and it's my friend. Her first question is, "Did you call the post office?", which I did not. She then proceeds to tell me that, miraculously and mysteriously, the aforementioned lost clothing donation package was delivered this morning! She read the shipping stamp back to me and confirmed that I sent it out on FEBRUARY 12th....and she just got it today! She said the wrapping was immaculate and not damaged, so it obviously had just been sitting somewhere in a corner, lost and forgotten, until someone recently discovered it! I sent it economy mail which was supposed to take 6 business days....little did I know it was actually going to take 4 weeks!!
In the past I didn't like criticizing the post office since the amount of business they must handle is overwhelming. I never complained about rising prices of stamps because it's amazing to me that you can pay a mere 39cents and have an envelope travel cross-country and arrive at its proper destination in just a few days. But the last few years of terrible service (and especially the etrocious attitude of the NY postal employees) has left a very bad impression on me. I often wondered how many mistakes are made....I'm just one person and have dealt with a huge amount of screw ups, so if each person, or each household has to deal with the same amount of mistakes, the USPS is in bad shape indeed.
At least my friend's package got there, but holy crap!....if that little package could speak!
