look at my signature, at my tank descriptions, and please let me know if you think i can keep either guppies, platys, mollies, etc. in my 10-gallon or my 46 gallon.
keep in mind that most of the zebra danios that i have listed are gone and have been moved into my cycling 29 gallon, freeing up some space.
can i keep a few? if so, what types should i consider? which tank should i add them to? would any of my current fish help to control the amount of fry?
oh yeah, and my water runs slightly alkaline, at 7.2

ive decided to put off thoughts of having these fish until i have added more tiger barbs and serpae tetras and until ive gotten my 29 gallon cycled
You could have have livebearers in the 29, once completely cycled. I would keep keep either guppies or platys and make sure you have a place to bring the fry too!:22:

i have a 20 gallon i am going to start cycling soon as well, so if i just wait i will be able to make all my fish happy and also get some Livebearers if i want to. it makes more sense

The Tiger in the 10g. I realize they do not get huge but 10g is too small for any pleco IMO.

how about the tengallonplecotis.
Did you ever think about keeping that in a ten?

that pleco is about 1 1/4 inches long at the moment, and nothing to do with what i was asking about.

well, i guess tank setup was fair game, but all the jokes did not seem constructive and i still think it is alright to keep the tiger where he is now at his size. i dont know about the tengallonplecotis. i do have other tanks i can eventually house it in

i put the L387 in my tank because the guy at the fish store recommended it after i told him i needed something for my 10. i believe he said it would be around 4 inches if i remember correctly. honestly, though, i know very little about this fish. i imagine that he will soon end up in my 29 gallon, in perhaps 2-3 months. i do appreciate input when someone thinks ive made a mistake. i want to find out more information about him before i make up my mind. i think i remember hearing that they are very good because they do not bother plants. in that case, the 29 will be a great fit for him. for the time being though, i think he will be fine in the 10. he is still very small. im sorry if i got a little defensive it was way too early when i checked that.
im going to start a new thread asking for any input people might have about them.

I do know guppies and platys can be kept in a 10 gallon tank but do keep in mind they are very, very FAST breeders so try to stick to one gender or eventually you'll end up with a colony.

I have endler/hybrid Tigers they are just like guppies but smaller. I have all the females in a 5 gal. and all the males in a 6 gal. I keep the numbers down by rehoming the baby fry's, I have 1 bushy nosed pleco in each tank for algae control. These plecos are the best for small tanks. I'm raising some babies that were born a few weeks ago that are only 1/2" big. They were given to me by a friend. The momma of these were only 3" big adult size. They grow very slowly. I had a baby born last year that was only 2" big. They are easy to rehome on craigslist. I have 2 in my 55 gal. tank of community fish. Aqua-bid has endlers for sale and so does Swampriveraqutics.
If you don't want baby fry just put endler males in your 10 gal.If you go with other livebearers stay away from Mollies as they get really big except balloon mollies. Excess babies can be food for your bigger tank fish. I know this sounds cruel but you can't keep all the babies when they are born every month or so. If you buy a Angelfish as a baby it will grow with the other fish in your community tank and they can live in peace. I have 1 angelfish bought a Walmart that was about the size of a nickel and is now 6" big in my 55 gal. tank with glow-light tetras, harleqen rasboras, dwarf rainbows,2 male gold dust mollies, red cherry shrimp, 2 long fin bushy nose plecos. In this set up if you have male and female livebearers the bigger fish in the tank will keep the fry in check and the tank will not get overpopulated with baby fish. You can also get a Gouarmi in place of the angelfish just make sure that they are tiny babies when you get them so they will grow up with your tetras and other fish you already have. I have never had a problem with 1 big fish like a Angelfish in a community tank. Make sure it is only 1 as more will pair off or two males will not get along and cause trouble in your community tank. :fish: :fish: :fish:

i just picked up 3 platy's for the 29 gallon. my plan is to bring over my 2 serpae tetras from the 46 and then a couple at a time bring their numbers up to 10 or so. i figure they will eat platy fry, but please tell me if i am wrong about that.
after the 29 has run for a few months i will bring the L387 to finish it off.
as for angelfish, i have been tempted to keep one with the platys, but i need to take care of my serpaes before i do something like that...so no angel right now. i did see some really cool ones at the store, though. they were called koi angelfish. they had the same colors.

i took the 3 new platy's back this morning because one of them was rubbing up on plants and i really want to avoid ich in my brand new setup.
i looked at petsmart in my town and many of their fish had ich so i passed. then yesterday i went to petsmart near my work and took a look at their fish, and they looked good. i know what i saw though, one of them was definitely scratching an i(t)ch. i hope i got it out of there soon enough. they were only in there 12 hours
im going to where i should have gone in the first place to pick up a few platy's today. their fish are always healthy

Petsmart and those stores actually bug me, Half the people there have no idea what there talking about and the tanks are overstocked to shit. Example I saw 15+ Hi Fin pagnasius sharks about an inch long in a 20 gallon tank. And the next day they were all dead... I wonder why..
