Can they eat a bit of scrambled egg? I feed them flake food, but I want to try to give them other things too. I would also like to know any other foods that they would like too.

Thanks,
ShadoWolf

Well I do not think I would feed my fish scrambled eggs. But you can supplement their diet with live/frozen foods such as blood worms and brine shrimp, only a few times a week. They may also enjoy some veggies like zuchinni, or romaine leaf.

I never would have thought of giving them vegtables... Thank you Gayle!

You could also feed them cucumber, that is my fishes favorite.

Do you feed them the vegtables raw, or do you have to steam them to soften them up a bit?

I nuke mine for 30 seconds in a little water, the veggies not the fish.

LOL Rich!!!!!

You can use the microwave or just boil them for a bit to soften them a tad. If you ever feed them peas, which will help if they get constipated as it acts as a laxative, the shells will need to be removed after you boil them. I also always peel the skin off zuchinni and cucumber.

My platys LOVE that "marine algae" (seaweed) that is sold in small packages in many pet shops and online. I put it in a veggie clip and they mob it immediately. They do tear it apart and pieces float around but they seem to find all of it and eat it up. Platys should have more vegetation-type food in their diet than meaty items - you probably have noticed how they graze the glass and such in your aquarium - they're eating algae. The main diet for mine is spiralina based flake, which I feed in small amounts 2 or 3 times a day. On the "2" days, I do a third feeding of the algae - about every other day.

I use Topfin Tropical Flake food, and beginning Saturday I was going to mix some cucumber with their two feedings. Does this sound like a good idea? And how do you tell if they're constipated...? And do Australin Rainbowfish need a different diet?

I had a 9"+ Pleco that simply devoured cucumbers like there was no tomorrow. I would buy an average size cucumber, knock off the very ends, cut the remaining cylinder into about three smaller cylinders, cut each cylinder in half lengthwise, and cut out the seeds. A rubber band & a rock would help keep them anchored at the bottom of the tank.

In addition to algae wafers & the occasional "vacation" feeders, one of these chunks would only survive about two days. At which time, the skin would be the only thing left, and that would be picked so clean that you could have read a newspaper through it.
