ok - so i think i have everything worked out for the tank purchase - will be as follows:
tank: 75gal
filtration: rena xp3 w/ additional bio-wheel hang-on
lighting: no UV
accessories: no live plants
bottom: gravel
Here is what i want as far as fish, what do you think? I am starting to become a big stickler on fish not being stressed out and living "happy" lives in my tank, so beyond being overstocked, i want to stock in a way that promotes a good community tank feel....for the fish that is.....
2 - Angelfish
2 - Discus
5-10 - Zebra Danios or Neon Tetras
2-4 - Plecos (again, not of the common variety, full growth @ 4-7")
How does that sound?
open to suggestions, as i will admit, i don't know squat about correct stocking....

I would say if you want discus that you should center you whole tank around them. They are a very difficult fush to keep especially if you dont have soft low PH tap water. Discus require a ph around 6.5 you so check to see what kind of water you are dealing with and go from there. Im not tring to discourage you discus are very beautiful fish and can be an amazing fish to keep but you just have to know what your getting yourself into before you start. Go luck and keep us up to date on the tank

If you get neon tetras, make sure to get small angelfish. Angelfish that grow up with small fish around them won't see them as a food source later on. And I would suggest fewer plecos and more discus, as Lou mentions above. It's good feng shui to have odd numbers of everything :)

I dont wanna say your wrong but when I was researching discus I found that if you are going to keep them do a tank of 6 or more or a tank of 2. The 3-5 groups will pick on one till it dies then so on and so forth, but I guess pairs seem to be cool together. But again each fish and group of fish is different. Plus buying 6 discus could run you a pretty penny.

K, I'll say I was wrong :)
My mistake on the discus part then.

Yeah, I think I even saw that comment somewhere too. Ugh, my advice is just terrible today. Goodnight.

thanks for the great input!
yes...i am actually not a believer in fung shui and think that even numbers create quite a nice pairing....haha....
as for the discus and pH.....i hope that my home water ph is low.....anyone live in california? (costa mesa to be exact...)
discus do run a pretty penny.....but i am a pleco man....love them to death...and the tank (along with most the decor) will be for them....all the wood their little hearts want.....
how dirty of a fish are discus? huge bioload type fish?
and for the tank itself - would upping my tetra count from 4-8 to 15-20 be too much for the tank?
again.....thanks!

ohh i forgot the most important thing do not mix discus with plecos. the plecos will suck a hole right in the side of the discus. With out those discus the extra tetras should be fine.

Angels should always be in groups of possibly 5-6. You end up with two males and you'll have a problem. And they should not be with Discus. They should be alone other than with bottom dwellers such as your pleco.
I think you should stick with either angels or discus and make them your primary fish in the tank. Very soft and warm temps are required for Discus with low pH.
