you get the queen and the workers won't sting in fear you'll hurt her, call a local beekeeper, they'll appreciate new bees

...gotta 'bee' careful. A new swarm that's just landed is unlikely to go on the defensive and sting...but if they've been sitting there more than a day or so, they treat their landing site like a hive...and will be just as defensive as any 'normal' colony...

Regardless...very cool pics...thumbs2:

Good! I love when bees get new homes (vs. being the victim of an exterminator)...

Aw they were Honey bees, I wouldn't like to see them exterminated,
we phoned a local bee keeper, he was glad of some new stock.

You'd be surprised at how many swarms get exterminated. :scry: People panic...they don't think to find a beekeeper...and of course beekeepers can be hard to find. And even if you find one, some don't want swarms in case they're harbouring mites or disease...etc...

Yes I can understand people panicing, fortunately these ones got
transfered to a good home.

I've heard of this kind of thing happening on a children's swing set, the people their tried to scare them away because of the obvious danger but I think a fair number of bees ended up dying instead.

Whay do bees clump together on trees limke this? Anybody know?

I

Why do bees clump together on trees limke this? Anybody know?

When bees swarm it means they are actually dividing an existing colony in two thus creating a new hive. As a natural occurrence in the wild this swarming propagates the species. It is always a planned event and can be caused by the following.
· Overcrowding
· Starvation
· Other internal hive problems
Overcrowding is the main reason for a honey bee swarm though. :ssmile:
