Does anyone use any specific online store with good shipping rates if not free? That is aside from Petsmart and Petco (with minimum purchase).

jeff, the keyhole cichlids you have, do they bother the other tetras in the tank?

not at all. keep in mind that they are cichlids though. just because it works for me does not necessarily mean it will work for you. you will need lots of hiding spots and a decently-sized tank if you are going to mix species like that. :ezpi_wink1:

That's one reason I asked. I keep reading about cichlid behavior and seeing them in your sig with other fishes made me curious.

I usually check the shipping policies. PetSmart often has free shipping over $50 but often they are charging more so you save nothing on the free $8.95 shipping. I don't look for shipping as much as I do the initial prices of items. If you get something for $20 less than somewhere else, you've already got free shipping as far as I can see.

Live fish deliveries are another story. Some outlets send any amount you want for $25-29 dollars. Others charge that much PER BOX so you need to watch that. Right now PetSolutions has free shipping over $199 including fish so that's not bad if you happen to want a new canister filter and a bunch of fish.

Well, I don't know any of the freshwater places, but there's this awesome saltwater site that offers free shipping along with a 15 day guarantee on *most* species as long as you follow their acclimation guide. I say most because some are obviously notorious about not shipping well, so they won't guarantee those. I frequently go to that site just to dream. :) Anyway, all their lists come with photos, description, place of origin, reef safe or not, size at shipping, ....tons of stuff!

Anyway, even if you just want to browse around and check out what they have, it's:

pretty easy site to remember, huh? My favorite species they offer is the Boxing Crab. What an interesting creature! And only $19.99?!

Just looking at that site makes me want to set up a saltwater tank. ;)

You can also request a free catalog from Dr Foster and Smith that has a 5 dollar off coupon in it. Shipping for most orders is 10 dollars I believe. The prices there are some of the best I've seen.

I try not to go to saltwater sites because it makes me drool. Really.
