When I was at my lFS the other day I noticed one of their alge glass cleaners was nothing more than a sponge with a wire mesh.

Similar to thishttp://akamai.edeal.com/images/catalog3684/folder24579/img3040571med.jpg

It got me wondering. Could I use one of these

It would be a clean sponge that has never touched soap or water, or would it not be worth the risk? Just a crazy idea I had.

As long as it doesn't have any soap, I think a sponge is a sponge.

Just make sure to rinse it completely thoroughly. Some sponges come with some kind of a preservative to prevent them from molding over during shipping. I think that chemical could harm your fish.

...after years of scrubbing with sponges and magnets, I finally got fed up with the algae and took a scraper too it (glass tank)...

...what a difference! It took no time at all, and the tank hasn't been this clean for years!!!

Remind me why I haven't been using a scraper all along?
