Well I thought and was told that both of my new females were prego when I got them. I was not really for sure at first, but yeah I know that Precious is in fact prego. She is very young, she probably got prego on her first heat, that is really not very good. The past few days her tummy has gotten bigger and bigger, and her nipples are all showing, and the fur has been cleared out of the way. Just a few minutes ago I saw that she has taken all of the paper towels I put in there for her and has started to build her a nest in the corner of the cage. So I gave her a new pile of them to add to it, and she has been taking them all back there. I think that in the next few days she will have the babies. Since she is so young and its her first litter I am not sure how well she is going to do or how many she will have that survive. But I plan on staying up with her as long as I can in case something does go wrong. Keep your fingers crossed for Precious you guys!!!!!

Yeah it is a good sign that she is building a nest!!! And that she cleared the fur away!!! She is a really good girl!!!! Its just that she is so young still and so small.

Yeah, It could get overwhelming for her. I wish her luck!
If I didn't have a rabbit I would get a rat. There was a sweet blue female at petsmart that would sit on my arm when I cleaned the cage. I wanted her!
But after cleaning the cage I was not a fan of the smell. Its a lot worse compared to my rabbit.

Well really if you use carefresh and change the it every other day, the smell is not even there. You still have to wash the cage a few times a week with mild soap and water. The males on the other hand can get a bit stinky!!!! But still you just have to change the bedding more often.

When we move I still might get one, they are so sweet. I wonder if I could find another with that ones personality. Ha ha I wonder what my rabbit would think? Yeah the smell could have been worse be cause there were about 10 in a glassed in case. I cleaned it three times a week. And my Boyfriend rescued 3 males from the haunted house he was in (they were to social and didn't run around their enclosure so were not scary). They were funky little boys. Oh god I still remember how they got home with him that night. They were in a box strapped to the back of his motorcycle. But he didn't have a choice, they would be snake food the next day at the LSU swamp exhibit.

They make really great pets!!! They are smart, snuggly, cleaner and way less prone to bite. You can litter box train them as well. I just never have. If you get one that is pretty young you can really train them to do a bunch and they get really bonded to you!!

So do you think that she will 'pop' in the next few nights? LOL you have me all worried about her now ;)

Well now she is just kinda chilling in the nest she has made. She is walking abit odd too! They usually wont have them until late at night when its quiet and dark. I think it will be the next few days!!! I cant say for sure, but I think so!!!

Fingers and toes crossed that "precious" will be OK! I used to feed a few small pieces of wholemeal bread soaked in skim milk to my rats (when I had them years ago) especially just after birthing and when they were lactating, it is great for keeping their strength up.

Anything yet gayle??? LOL!
Is "precious" by herself or is she in with "lil mama"? My 2 females were together because they were due around the same time, and the 2 girls would help each other out caring for the babies....

They are together at the moment. She seems to have lost intrest in the nest, moved into the tissue box and gotten really lazy. She did not even come out to greet my parents when they came over. Lil mama is acting pretty strange too, almost nervous. I cant see anything under her. I am going to give her until the morning. If she is still acting off and I see no babies I will take her to school with me and give her an ultrasound to see whats going on.

IMHO I would just leave her be at the moment as it does sound like it will be soon. It is normal for them to move around making different nests (this is also to confuse predators) and mine would go between the two, picking the one she felt safest to give birth in. The last week or so before mine gave birth, I found to be agonising for me and it does seem to take forever. As you said, mine gave birth during the night and the only way I knew she had them was hearing these tiny little squeaks coming from the babies. I would do that so many times a day just to make sure they were still OK, I must have looked so silly LOL!

LOL Its so wierd how we get so concerned!!!!! I bet our pets think we are half crazy sometimes!!!!!
I just really wish it would be done and over soon! I am getting to the point where I am over there at the cage every five minutes!!!
You know its really really odd because my daughter will be 6 years old at 12:30!!! I remember waiting and waiting and waiting for labor to start, lol, the little cramps I was having were actually contractions and I had no clue!! So finally I called the DR and told her that I had been having cramps for a few days, she sent me to the hospital to get checked out and a a couple hours later Angel was in my arms!!!

:partyangel: I know LOL and I wonder whether our concern helps or hinders them in situations like this sometimes. I would often sit by the cage for hours just to make sure they were still squeaking and when they stopped for a min. or so I would get worried LOL!
Your labour sounded like a walk in the park LOL! compared to most. Happy birthday to Angel!!!

Anything new?
Gayle

Nope it appears she is just not ready. She even came out today to play!! But her tummy is very large, so I did not play with her too much, just let her do whatever she wanted. She has not shown anymore intrest in nesting at all. I am not to sure what is going on now.

That's a bummer gayle...The way I knew the time was getting very close with mine, was when I could see the babies actually moving inside her. You may have to look very closely at her stomach, but you can definitely see movement....when you do, birthing shouldn't be that far away.
