I've been wanting to get my 8 guppies to try it and got a veggie clip over the weekend.

Incidentally, a great tip in the instructions on the back of the package - leave the food item in the freezer for 30-45 minutes. This softens the membranes and "makes the food more palatable".

So I ripped off a fresh piece of romaine and let it sit in the freezer for 45 minutes. This really does soften it! I put it in.

The guppies didn't even recognize it as food and no one even bothered to peck at it. They knew it was there, some even got in behind it, but they didn't seem to care.

I went out last night and stayed out much longer than I planned. I got back 6 hours later, worried that it had disintegrated into a million slimy fragments. To my surprise it was intact although very soft. I don't think the guppies touched it though.

I guess I really should monitor them more closely next time. All I have to go on today to see if they went at it is to look for dark green poop.:hmm3grin2orange:

Can anyone get their guppies to eat romaine lettuce?

Incidentally I also feed peas once a week. Most will have a little, some really get into it.

Yes! They also love spinach cucumber and banana!
I just make sure its clean and drop it in with something to hold it on the bottom.
Peas are great for them.It helps to keep them regular! lol

I think my fish are like me and won't touch veggies :hmm3grin2orange:

I have tried cucumber, lettuce etc. but they won't even look at any veggies I put in! Although that's wrong, I must say they have tried a tiny bit of pea on the odd occassion. I can't seem to find Romain lettuce over here (read it is the best for fish) unless it goes by another name.

Oh BTW I have green poop floating around and being caught by the filters today, so they did eat some.:ssmile:

Don't know who or how much!

No photos of poop but I did try to feed it again today and this time monitored the results...disappointing.

My tuxedo (Sooty) nibbled at it like crazy then never approached it again. My Turquoise (Big Turq) nibbled at it several times but also left it alone. I don't think either one got a piece off, but the lettuce is very soft after being in the freezer for almost an hour, it's the same consistency as wet tissue paper.

The others paid it absolutely no attention at all.

I'll leave it in until 4 or 5 this afternoon but I'm not too hopeful. Oh well, a little fasting is good for them, and they are cleaning the bottom instead of feasting on lettuce.

Here's a bad photo of Big Turq slightly interested in it.

Never Mind LOL!..I think I would rather skip the poops pics. anyway :hmm3grin2orange: That is a good photo..thanks! Perhaps if you lowered the lettuce they may be more interested in it...They may just need time to realise that it is actual food. Some fish these days may not know what veggies are if they have been brought up on flakes their whole life. My fish will also not touch daphnia, they just spit it out with this disgusted look on their face LOL!

It's definitely in their way, they swim at this level and in this location quite a bit. They know it's there, they have to swim around it. They just don't care about it.

I left it until 8 PM actually, 8 hours. Still untouched.

I might keep trying. I'll try this on days where I'd usually give an algae wafer. Hikari algae wafers are expensive...

I like that expression, "some fish these days".:hmm3grin2orange: "Fish these days have the life, back in my day, why, they were happy if they got discarded cereal!"

Stick a fork in the lettuce, cucumber, banana or what ever. They will pay more attention to it if it is motionless on the bottom. Its more difficult for them to tug on a peice off when its floating.

It's held in place by the clip - do the clips not work?

It looks like its floating in your pic!
It works for me when the food is on the bottom.

It's held in by that goofy clip that looks like a clownfish which has a suction cup to attach to the side of the tank.

I might try putting the clip near the bottom. They will go after algae wafers on the bottom.

I was wondering what that clownfish was :hmm3grin2orange: You don't think it could be scaring some of the fish do you?

"Fish these days have the life"
I would love to believe that to be the case!

Heh heh could be! What's of more concern is that the thing still smells of chemicals after repeated washing and rinsing plus two 5-hour dips in the aquarium.

It was kind of an impulse purchase - I actually wanted another one at another LFS that was not only cheaper, it floated. Should have held out until we were at the other store!

Try zucchini. My fish ignore cucumber but love zucchini though it takes them quite awhile to realize it is food. With zucchini you can leave it in the tank longer before it disintegrates giving the fish longer to realize it is food. Even my corys have found it and nibbled on it. I have had mine in for 48+ hours and it is still together, it will be coming out today as it is starting to break apart.
