View Full Version : Need Help with Serpae Tetras
I have had Zebra Danios and some Serpae Tetras to get myself comfortable with having my tank. After a couple months I went and got some Neon Tetras. I guess this was the wrong thing to do, because my Serpaes have about nipped them to death. I woke up this morning ang one of the Neons tails was completely gone. (I've only had the Neons for 3 days. My question is what can I get that the Serpae will leave alone? I'm getting rid of the Neons today. What other tank mates will be o.k.

How big of a tank and how many Serpaes do you have?

It sounds like a ten gallon.
Is it very well planted? Lots of rocks and plants.
Do the neons have nowhere to run too and hide?

If the tank size permits it (if it is a 10, it won't) but try to get at least 8 serpae tetras, they're like tiger barbs and they'll bicker more amongst themselves than other fish when they're kept in larger groups, they don't hurt each other though.
Other than that, I'd suggest cories or some sort of bottom dweller with them, since danios are surface-middle dwellers and the serpaes are more middle than anything, some bottom dwellers would round it out nicely and most cories will be able to withstand the pestersome serpaes (just avoid the pygmy cory species).

you left out the size of tank and number of fish. if your tank is bigger than a 10 gal and you have say, combined 10 serpae and danios you might add 5-6 rasboras [brilliant, harliquen] otherwise you might be fully stocked if you have a 10gal. let us know.
