Considering adding a 40 long tank to the menagerie. Any good stocking ideas? I'd like to try something new, but not sure where to start. Would love to hear some ideas! I'll be filtering with HOBs.

I like that one a lot, I have been looking for an excuse to get a rainbow shark, thanks! Here's another question for you though--do the ghost shrimp add to the bioload significantly? That is, do they count as an inch of fish (I don't think so but want to be sure).

No they have VERY little contribution to the bioload in your tank.

I was thinking maybe 4-5 Rams, school of tetras, a bristlenose and misc. others

Shrimp tank! Cherry Red Shrimp, Amano shrimp, ghost shrimp, crystal red shrimp(if you can breed these, then it's $$$)

the little that shrimp do add, they make up for in cleaning. Im adding 10 shrimp for my 20g, and five for the betta tank. 1.30$ a shrimp here. dang

I'll second this. I just love cichlids. They're so smart and entertaining!

Lots of great ideas. Since this is a 40 long, it is 48x13x16. Are there any of the fish suggested here that would want something deeper than 13"?
