I had a post asking about a cheap 10 Gallon tank. I am once again thinking about a 120 Gallon tank again.

I was wondering how much some of you paid for your 120 Gallon and what did it include?

If I get a 120Gallon this is what my stocking would be

4 Peral Gouramis
4 Bannded Gouramis
4 Moonlight Gouramis
4 Honey Dwarf Gourami
6 Silver Dollars
5 Bronze Cory Catfish
5 Lepard Cory Catfish
5 Albino Cory Catfish
4 Frogs
5 Clams
10 Ghost Shrimp
3 Snails
Heavy Fake Plants
Gravel
2 Filters
a heater
light
hood
tank
rocks

I would get rid of all my plants and other tanks except one 20 Gallon. I would keep my crayfish in there. I would get rid of my 29 Gallon, 1- 20 Gallons, 10 Gallon and 5 Gallon. I also would get rid of 17 Real Plants( 3 Amazon Sword, 3 Ludwigias, 1 Jungle Vale, 1 Dwarf Grass, 4 Anacharis, 3 Bananna plants, Water Milfoil and 1 Water Hornworth), 4 Swordtails, 4 Giant dianos, 5 Hatchet Fish and 3 Bumble Bee Gobbies.

My favorite store wants $400 for Tank, hood and light.

I think that's great because I paid about $800 for a 150 gallon with a hood and light. Nothing else came with it.

Yeah, it was a big freakin' killer to the checkbook all right!! LOL... I thought I was going to faint at the cash register when the tank plus all the "incidentals" such as gravel, filter, sand and all that came to $1200... I've been too scared to add up everything spent to date.... whew, and I thought my horses were expensive.....:ezpi_wink1:

Drumachine09

It does add up pretty fast huh? But i guess thats one it takes to be a dedicated aquarium keeper, hu?

I rode a horse once. I fell off and cried.

I was 6 cut me some slack.....*sniffle*

A horse bit my hand at the age of 8. I guess it thought my hand looked like food? Nothing broke, but I had some nasty swelling for a while. Since then I have not particularly liked horses.

Sounds like you guys had some bad experiences with horses.. I always cut 6 and 8 year olds slack...:thumb: I have just always loved horses and couldn't stand to not have mine... even though they drive me just as freakin crazy as the fish sometimes...

$800 probably was a rip-off but that's pretty much par for the course for us.. we tend to leap before we look on most things

Sorry, we tend to get side-tracked easily. I would not put the crayfish in there, as I have heard many incidences of aggression towards other bottom dwellers.

Look why do people around here think it's right to steal other peoples post. And no it is not the first time it happened to me. Lets get to my question. Also what do you think of my stocking level?

freshwaterfishlover
03-07-2007, 03:33 AM
No I would keep my 29 Gallon and just put the Crayfish in it. I would not put it in the 120 Gallon.

Drumachine09
03-07-2007, 03:34 AM
I guess we all have a little ADD in us.

Crayfish are Notroious bottom dwelling kings. They will take on anything and everything in their reach. I have seen 2, 4 inch crayfish take out a 14 inch oscar. Not a pretty sight at all. I always have a place where i put my crawfish..... Right on my dinner plate.

Oh, well then use the above comment for informational purposes.

4 Peral Gouramis - 4 inches each - 16 inches
4 Bannded Gouramis - 4 inches each - 16 inches
4 Moonlight Gouramis - 6 inches each - 24 inches
7 Silver Dollars - 6 inches each - 42 inches
5 Bronze Cory Catfish - about 10 inches
5 Lepard Cory Catfish - 10 inches
5 Albino Cory Catfish - 10 inches
4 Frogs - ??

so this adds up to about 130 inches without the frogs. Sounds perfect.

So what kind of filtration are we talking here?

freshwaterfishlover
03-07-2007, 11:44 AM
Not sure, but it would be two filters. Also I changed my Stocking level around and other things on my first post.

You are too funny.

freshwaterfishlover

See the problem is not geeting the 120 Gallon, it's getting rid of 4 of the other tanks including 17 Real plants and 16 Fish.

If I change my Stocking around and buy a Arrowana can I get small fish like Gouramis or Cories or do I have to get fish atleast 10''-1'?

They don't have to be 10 inches to be kept in the tank, but yes, an arowana would eat small fish.

However, unless your feeders are home grown, it is likely that you could introduce a new disease.

Chrona :What size do you meen by smaller?

Drumachine09: Can you explain your post more/better

cocoa_pleco

small as in neon tetras to gouramis.
filtration as hang on back, ugf, canister, underwater, sponge, etc.

freshwaterfishlover
03-08-2007, 03:43 AM
Does that go for only the Common Silver Arowanas or any Arowana type?

Severus
03-08-2007, 04:25 AM
Any Arowana will eat smaller fish and will need ample filtration for such a large fish

How about the Columbia Catfish Shark 10" max. They are Peaceful. I think they need salt though as in Brakish.

Also how about the Pictus Cat it is Very Peaceful and grows 10" max and I think will not eat smaller fish.

See I want to get 1 big fish, after all I am spending at least $500.00 more like $600.00 or 650.00 and I want 1 huge fish. I will get 150 Gallons if I have to. Why have a HUGE tank and not one Huge fish.

Chrona
03-08-2007, 05:38 PM
Sure you can have huge fish....but you won't be able to keep most of the community fish you wanted before with them....

The pictus cats get to 8 inches usually and they will eat small fish. They also get territoria to their own kind when they get older. I would steer away from the columbian shark because as you said they are Nrackish and they get quite large and eat EVERYTHING.

as far as catfish go, it really all depends on the species you want to keep

Ohh what a chiclid tank you could make with 120 gallons. You can do want you will of course but I would highly recommend looking into africans. Very colorful, very active, some can get rather large (might not want to keep and 10" but you could def get some 7-8"ers in there). Plus you can overstock with african (if you have enough filtration that is) and I always say the more fish the better. :hmm3grin2orange: Just my $0.02
