It's been 9 years since I've had an aquarium. (I've lived a peculiar life.) I just got a 55 gallon for $30 and I'm excited about getting all the fixings next week.
I don't expect you all to remember it, but I'm a Petsmart employee, and if anyone has any Petsmart or petstore questions, maybe I can help you out.
Thanks for having me.

Welcome back! And now that we have an insider, you can give us the scoop! Which petsmart do you work at? You know I often send people to petsmart if they can't find a LFS. Partly because of the return policy, and partly because the ones around here actually hire people who know about aquariums and fish to work in the aquarium and fish section. :P
Anyway, Welcome to the AC!!
What species of fish are your passion?

Thanks for all your kind words! And yes, being around so many fish again certainly did help feed the fire to get back into the hobby again.

I work at the PetSmart in Onalaksa, Wisconsin, north of La Crosse.
I was actually impressed with PetSmart's attitude towards animals. They don't sell any cats or dogs, but donate space, labor, and store materials to local animal shelters to adopt cats and dogs. They don't just say they feel strongly about dog and cat overpopulation and euthanasia, they donate a lot of resources to fixing the problem, which is pretty cool.
The only thing I don't like about the fish is they only have the same stock fish. They never get oddballs or special orders. It would be nice to see some different cichlids, tetras or catfish come through.

9 years? Welcome back! I used to work at a Petsmart and was lucky enough to be able to have cohorts who actually cared for the animals (well, for the most part...:/) So your store doesn't carry any cichlids or even tetras? That's kinda peculiar.

No they have cichlids and tetras, but the same ones, everyday. They never get anything different.
That is the main thing, is that they don't pay real well, and there aren't that many full time positions. So many people don't want to work hard, and you really have to work hard to give the animals the care they deserve.
PetSmart itself seems to be generally pretty genuine in intending good care.
