I have had bushy nosed plecos for a short time. I have them in a tank with rocks, sand, plants, I just added blk. PVC elbows in the back 2 corners of the tank and a long piece of PVC behind some of the rocks and rock decorations. I was reading that you have to have driftwood or bogwood. Is this a must have for keeping Bushy Nosed Plecos? Mine seems fine and healthy and they have enough food and algae in my big 55 gal. FW community tank. If someone out their can give me an answer to the question. I put the PVC in today to provide some places that the Pleco can go in as I'm just starting to put more live plants in the tank. :fish:

algenco, could you tell me, does BN always refer to bushynose? i always thought that was for bristlenose, but i am only 9 months into this hobby so what do i know?? are they the same fish?

if so, they may not need wood, but they do love it, at least mine do. i am sure that they love all the pvc as well...i hear that that is where they spawn, in very tight quarters.

I think they're the same fish. I can't tell you for sure though as I've always just called them Bushynoses. They like wood, but do not require it.

Bushy Nose Plecos are sometimes refered to Bristlenose also. They are the same. In the Plecostomus family.

Several species are refered to as 'bristlenose' but 'bushynose' only refers to one species, the most commonly kept hybrid pleco that you get at every pet store.

I have also read that they do not need it.I just happen to like it in my tank and thats also the only place I have ever seen mine besides hiding in its chosen shell.
