I just discovered a HUGE aquarium shop that, from its website, looks like the king god bufu of all aquarium shops. I just mapquested it, and it's an hour and 5 minute drive from my house. Pooh. Maybe I'll set aside time this week and make the trip just to browse and be awed.
As well, a new aquarium shop is opening near me...only 20 mins away. However, they've been advertising this shop for months now, but it's still so far from opening that they haven't even announced a date yet. I happened to see it from the interstate so I exited and drove by. It's awesome as well. Who knows when it will open...it seems that it's being delayed more than a space shuttle launch. I signed up for the e-newsletter so I'll know when an official opening is announced.
Now watch these places sell puppies or baby feeder mice! That would be just my luck...I'd have to boycott them on my first visit!

Your not alone. I have only bought fish from an independant LFS once. Believe it or not Petsmart had better sevice than them.

A lfs by me called The Hidden Reef just re-opened there store in an old ball-room, so its pretty big. Years ago, there was a fire on the top floor and it crashed down right on top of their fish room! They were known for how well they keep fish and their dedication to the hobby. cleanest lfs around.

I agree, they usually always look so sad, just waiting for somebody to come in, feel sorry for them, and the pet shop wins again.

I feel like that is the ploy behind most pet shops and unfortunetly it works...

Usually puppies that are found in pet shops are "puppy-mill" bred, if you've never heard of this, try doing a google on it, HORRIBLE conditions for the dogs and the only purpose of them being alive in their eyes is to breed and make $$$.

Think I'll give that search a miss, don't think I could handle any pics like that.

I've seen the videos, and you are making a VERY good choice not to look for them. The best way to combat puppy mills is to adopt from a shelter, or private breeder.
