whats the minimum size of an aquarium for a bichir?

It depends on the species. I think the smallest hit about a foot, so I would consider a 55-75 minimum, many species will need 180+.

Possibly in your area. How cold does it get there throughout the year?
NG it is nto 30gals, way too small! Fishguy is right, 55-75 (I say 75) but if your water doesn't drop below 70, I say your fine..

I agree! I keep my 17" Ornate and 17" Endli in my 180. Most species will require 75+ gallon tank.

Also agreed on the 75+ gallon tank. The smallest species averages 12-13" which in a 55 won't have enough room to turn around as an adult.

I figured you were all tropical. Bichirs would be fine in a pond.
