help identifying fish

I bought it as (blah blah blah) variatus from petsmart
I know it's a live bearer as I have 7 fry and their growing quite well 1/4" as of now (must have mated in the store).
any ways I'd like to know it's common name(s)

I love the coloring on her. I was thinking of getting a tuxedo platy, but got a white one with black spots, instead. ^_^
