Should I try to raise my tank's pH for a snail?

I just added a mystery snail to a tank with my betta today. Wild Turkey's post on snails says that the pH should be about 7 (thank you for the informative post, Wild Turkey! The people at the pet store didn't know much about snails).

The pH of my tank is currently 6.8. Should I add some crushed coral to the tank to try to increase the pH for the snail? I read on another thread that this is one way to permanently raise a tank's pH. Will the betta be ok with a pH level of 7?

From 6.8 to 7 I wouldn't bother if it were me.

I think higher than 7.My apple snails did lousy at 7.
7.4 would be better,the beta won't mind!

Thank you!! Any idea how much crushed coral I would need to add to the tank in order to raise the pH to 7.4? Is there a standard average ratio I might be able to follow?

Also, one more question. I have several live plants in the tank and am hoping to eventually add more. Will a pH of 7.4 be ok for the plants too?
