Just wanted to share that I'm going to be (hopefully) adopting a Chinese Crested from a Crest-Care Rescue :) Her name is Maddie and she is 4 years old. Today the Rescue is sending reps to my place to do a home inspection, to make sure my place is safe for her (and I don't have any worries). Then they will be checking my references (also no worries), and then I'll be able to bring Maddie home!!! Anyway, I'm really excited about it, because I've wanted a Crested for a long time. So, wish us luck (and a whole lot of patience) through this process thumbs2:

Wonderful news for you! I hope you enjoy your new baby as much as we have enjoyed the kittens we adopted for the kids for Christmas. I am sure she is coming to a lovely home.

Congrats! From all accounts, they're very sweet dogs. Is yours actually crested, or a powder-puff?

Thanks guys! They should be here any minute for the "inspection". I'm a bit nervous! lol. Not that I should be, but when someone is "inspecting" your home, it's always nerve wracking.
Rue-She's a Hairy Hairless, and I'm going to keep her trimmed as a HL. Right now her hair is scraggly and she's in desperate need of a groom, but I'll take care of that, since I'm a groomer anyway :D.
I'll DEFINITELY post pics :)

I was actually going to message you about the adoption's progress, but you beat me to it!
I had no doubts you'd be chosen for the dog, and I think you'll make a wonderful owner. I can't wait for the day you bring her home....she's not even my dog but I'm so excited and I'm sharing your joy!!! :19:
By the way, regarding our previous conversation about the chihuahua my boyfriend was going to bring home, one of the other people who were considering the dog has stepped up to adopt it. He's been its un-official owner for two weeks now, and keeps it in his apt and sleeps with it in his bed. He's already called the airlines and found out their regulations, bought a carrier, and has made arrangements for it to accompany him when he flies back home. Unless this guy flakes out at the last minute and we're forced to take him (hey, you never know), the dog has found an owner and has a new home.

The visit went REALLY well :) The women were amazed at how well behaved my kids were (threatening them before hand sure helped! lol) and they said that Maddie would have a great home with us! YAY! So, after my references check out, we will be making arrangements to pick up our new furry (but not too furry ;) family member!!! We SHOULD know within the week some time. Thanks all for your best wishes.
LAUREN-I'm glad that the Chi found a good home, and it sounds like it'll be very well cared for anyway. I'm sure the right pup will come along for you. The one lady who came today has 2 foster Puff Cresteds that she's had for A YEAR. They are sisters and she wants them adopted together. Their names are Pixie and Mermaid. I've seen them online for a while, and if I could get 2 more I'd get them for sure, but I really wanted a Hairless to start out. I just couldn't imagine fostering a dog for a year and having to give it to someone else.

Hey out of curiosity I went and googled the Hairless Chinese Crested Dogs and OMG...they are so cute...even with hair..I guess if maintained properly. I don't know if your dog will be like these guys but people can get the idea of what she will look like until you can share your pictures. Hope ya don't mind but here are the pictures I found

Those little guys are adorable! The thread that Sarahmom started under Controversial called "Other Pets" has a pic of my late Crested. She passed away at age 17 the day after Thanksgiving this past year. The pic was when she was 13, I think.
That little hairless crested is so cute it makes me want another one!!

Sorry Chrona, I haven't posted pics cause we don't have her yet. They are going to call my references, then I'm HOPING that on the weekend (sunday maybe) we'll be able to go pick her up, but I don't know if it'll be that soon, we'll see. Believe me, I'll post pics when I get her:19:
Here is one of the pics from [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

She is in DESPERATE need of a haircut, and when she has one, she'll look more like this (my friend's Crested):][Only Registered Users Can See Links.] ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.)

First of all that dog is a doll:1luvu: What a ham she is gonna be well worth the wait for you guys. Be patient she will be yours and home soon enough.
I wanted to share with you that when I was little(so that was just yesterday..I still am...lol) my Dad and Step Monster had a Cocker Spainel that would smile for Ice Cubes...he was a great dog...used to pull my brother and sister on their rollerblades.

lol, step Monster! haven't heard that one. I'm sure Maddie will fit in our crazy lifestyle perfectly, it is so hard to be patient though. I guess with Cresteds they smile submissively, when you're getting them in trouble:1luvu:
She's sure gonna be a ham, i just can't wait, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

Maddie's going to look like a little Clydesdale, just like the pic of the dog underneath her!
For Halloween you can fashion a little cart out of cardboard and attach it to Maddie's harness. She can be a Budweiser draft horse for Halloween!
Last Halloween my Border Collie was a scuba diver, complete with air/oxygen tank and scuba goggles. If I ever get her pics back, I'll post them. I was absolutely hilarious and she got so many compliments.

This one is one of my favorites. I saw it online somewhere and thought it was so cute that I had to save it. Whoever is such a dedicated owner to dress up their little guinea pig gets a thumbs up from me!

I guess it's the groomer in me, but to me she just looks like a complete mess. Her messy hair looks all scraggly and gross...lol, she'll look adorable with a haircut, I assure you :ezpi_wink1: The purpose is basically just to make them look like a Crested :) And of course, to give me something to do.
Paula's and Lauren-OH I can't WAIT to buy stuff, but I am waiting till I can take her with me so that I don't buy the wrong size:malelovies: Believe me, it's VERY hard for me to wait. The store near me has 30% off ALL dog clothing right now...and it's SOOOOOOOO hard to not go and buy tons of clothes for her. Hopefully we'll be able to get her soon.
OH, and I plan on dying her plumes occasionally as wellthumbs2: There is dyes specifically for dogs, and she's gonna be SO cute...just imagine PINK hair:41: Can u tell I'm excited?!?!

OH and that's adorable! (its a rabbit btw lol), but SO cute!

Is it a rabbit?? I thought it was a little pig! Some animal welfare worker I am!!
I occasionally dyed my crested's plume too. At that time I was a hairdresser and there was a very potent colored shampoo called Sunglitz that I would bathe her head with. It only lasted about a week (and then the blue would fade to green), but it was cute while it lasted. I was also big into barrettes, like you do with shih tzus. I couldn't use rubber bands (hair was too thin and fragile) so it was only temporary, but again, cute while it lasted. The barrettes were mostly on the days when I knew I'd be carrying her most of the time.
When my crested died I sent all her clothing to a friend of mine who does small dog rescue. Over the years I had accumulated 18 sweaters and 14 t-shirts. I cant' tell you how many I actually purchased (dozens I imagine), because I'd throw so much frayed clothing away. Here's a tip for you if you like sewing...you can go to Goodwill and purchase newborn t-shirts in whatever cute patterns they have. You cut the shirt lengthwise down the middle (or down the back if the front has a design or emblem...you can put the shirt on backward...emblem side up, on your dog's back), figure out your dog's girth, and sew the shirt back up accordingly, bringing the sleeves closer together to accomodate a dog's front-leg anatomy. Voila...cutesy, fun (and more importantly) cheap clothing for your dog.
By the way I SUCK at sewing. My machine is a $90 jobbie from Sears, and even I was able to do shirts in this manner.
After about a year or two the novelty of buying $30 dog shirts will wear off and you'll be looking for a more economic route....at least I did! Also, Walmart carries a lot of dog sweaters in the winter. Maybe they're not the most beautiful, but they're cheap and good for layering when it gets cold, so don't discount them.
Okay, I'll shut up now...this is making me miss my little dog!

Oh yes Lauren, I'm sure I'll be looking for economically friendly solutions in a while. I am going to have a lot of fun shopping though :)

As well, if you are a little experienced in sewing, you can make a sighthound collar for Maddie (they do share the same body style). I made one out of velvet. Rolled/folded it up to form the shape of a wide, flat collar, sewed it in place, sewed on a spot of velcro (couldn't find a buckle small enough), and then added embellishments. They have really beautiful trims at the fabric store that I sewed right on to the velvet. It looked rather middle easter/arabian in style...fancy gilded lacing with some beading. It was really pretty. Not very functional, but very pretty for a special occasion. Again, something she wore only on a "being carried by mom" day. You can try making it a semi-workable collar by sewing on a tiny D-ring, but the fabric is still to delicate to be pulled by a leash. I think everything cost me about $7, which is less than the price of an actual store-bought collar. The possibilites and color combinations are endless if you just have a little imagination (or use a favorite shirt/sweater as a guide pallette).

I wish I was a sewer, but I'm just not. It doesn't make sense to me lol. I have a friend who sews though, and I'll be able to con her into making some stuff up for me I'm sure :) That collar sounds beautiful.
