We found our newest betta dead this evening:scry:. Other then a slight ammonia spike probably from him dieing, his water parameters seemed normal. I don't know what happened. This afternoon he was swimming around normally. No signs of illness, he ate normally and his body looked fine just lying on the bottom belly up. Another mysterious death. We get those occasionally, unless he hit a nitrogen pocket in the sand. We didn't get around to adding MTS to this tank yet and it had a fairly deep sand bed so thats a possibility

We probably won't replace him. We need to cut back on tanks anyways so we'll give freddy (our other male betta) the plants that were in his tank and use this tank for a SW qt tank

I'm sorry to hear about your betta. I don't know much about nitrogen pockets so I can't help with a cause. You have my sympathies though.

sorry to hear that. Sometimes bettas just don't live very long.

I read on some site that bettas average life span is only 2-3 years.

yes that is true, but some don't even make it to two years. I was lucky enough to own one for 3 years. who knows how old it was when I got it. A lot of the time their deaths are unexplained. It's sad.

Thank you every one. We've only had him a few months and were starting to get attached. We were even going to add some cories to his tank in a few weeks too. Poor bubbles:scry:. One good side is Freddy got some new plants to sleep in
