Does it look like they've been sprinkled with salt? If so, it's ich. If it's more tuft like, then it's most likely a fungus. Treat Ich with one of the many ich products out there, for at least 10 days. Fungus, I would use Pimafix.

Chrona gave very good advice. All I would add is that melafix AND pimafix are both very good natural remedies for trying to handle a number of diseases, especially if started early on. Read both the labels and try to pinpoint what you may be dealing with, you can treat with both if you want, they work well together
i kinda figured it was ich after while but am scared to use the treatment because chemicals and dwarf cichlids especially rams are highly sensitive.
i'll give it a shot though and tell you guys about it

The melafix and pimafix shouldnt kill your sensitive fish. I would go that route

are melafix and pimafix safe for plants and invertabrates?
I believe so. I have used them on my gf's tank with a snail in there and he was fine. Never tried live plants but im sure it says on the bottles
welp, i lost my rasboras and one of my rams but all other fish were healed- i am guessing that the disease was to far in and not noticiable but i did eventually get the disease out of the tank... the tank is planted and my fish did fine as well as the plants
