Seen the most awsome thing today

I was standing on a mates verandah (porch) knocking back a coldie, when lightning struck a tree not more than 70 feet away, there was thing HUGE bang, as the flash hit it then reversed back on itself, then a puff of smoke as the tree fell, it was about 20inch in diameter, and it split it straight down the guts, from about 6inch from gound to about 20 foot up.

I have heard the big bang before, that indicates lightning has struck a tree or something, but this is the first time I had ever seen it, I was truely an awsome eye opening sight.

Im glad you werent in the trees fall path or were the lighting struck but thats pretty cool!

That actually happneded to me awhile ago. It struck in my neighbors front yard and i was in my driveway. About 100 feet away. It was the brightest thing i have ever seen in my life!

When I was a kid, lightning struck our garage. The electricity traveled through the wire clothesline attached between the garage and the house. The clothesline was attached right outside my bedroom window, which was open, and which I was in at the time. It was absolutely the brightest thing I've ever seen, and the lightning's crack was one of the loudest. The ends where the clothesline was attached left two huge burn holes.

lightning is pretty crazy, i love watching it in florida, the heat lighting storms at night! the bolts dance from cloud to cloud, at points covering the horizon in "veins" of lightning!

this one time i was in my buddies back yard, and lighting struck the ground, and blew a chunk from the concrete patio up and through the roof above the porch! i thought a gun went off, it was crazy.

I didn't see it (I was sleeping), but lightning hit near my uncles place a few years back.

The crack was so loud! I jerked up so fast I yanked the sheets out from under the matress.

The neighbours house was hit and caught on fire and we looked at some trees that were hit and all the bark had been stripped off the bottom 6'.

Totally amazing.

Mate you can have your 6 feet, I have come as close as I ever want to come to a strike, seeing the damage it done to that tree, you are one lucky boy.
