I've left the tank sit there fully planted, changed water etc. Did a water test this morning and had very good values (still) so I took the family to the shop to buy fish.
I got:
6 cardinal tetra
5 dawn tetra or is it gold tetra, latin is hemigrammus rodwayi (this month's special at the shop)
2 siamese algae eaters
(Which set me back 30 euros.)
The latter are acting not as I expected them to. I've had members of this family before and they tended to be rather shy creatures. These two however often swim along with the dawn/gold tetra school. I've even seen them get food from the water surface.
I think that in a few weeks I might add some bee shrimp and leave it at that. Should be quite enough for that 60 liter tank I have.
I'll try to take a few pics and post 'm here.

Is your siamese also so sociable?

We have 2 SAEs in our 46 gallon tank (with 5 zebrafish) and they're a blast to watch! The SAes love to move around the tank and we frequently see them up at the top grabbing flakes at feeding (so much for bottom dwellers)! We've only had them for about a week now, but they seem to be a very pleasant and enjoyable fish (not to mention keep the tank very clean, they're constantly on the move).

It sounds like you got false Siamese algae eaters or Flying Foxes before. They are not as active, don't eat as many types of algae, and possibly get more aggressive later on. True SAE are always on the move, eat all types of algae, and always remain peaceful.

Very possible. Still, these two are active and lively. See what happens with them
