I'd just like to know if having Malaysian Trumpet Snails will affect the pH. I'd like to keep the pH low around 6 - 7. tho its at 7.4 currently.

thank you

I don't think they affect it but I beleive they do need a the higher ph for their shells.

agree with above, if you are afraid, just take out the shells..

No,but the ph will affect them.Since my ph has dipped into the low 6s I have seen a marked decrease in the amount of full grown mts, those that do get large have thin shells with the top pointy part eaten away.Good I say,an acid bath for the little buggers is just what the doctor ordered.

reply to above:

yes, I actually want to put malaysian trumpet snails in my tank because they aerate the sand substrate of the heavily planted tank. They won't harm plants and they eat dead plants, algae, and left over food. So why not?

I'm with zociac. My MTS aren't really a problem, hardly ever visible even though I have tons, and they do beneficial things for my tanks. But I can understand those people who don't want them.

I guess i've never really had actual MTS's

I've always lumped them in with the crappy pond snails that just take over my tanks.

You can have a thousand in your tank and not see one...except at night when they cover everything. The concern I have with them is the added bioload of all those snails in an unplanted tank.
