Java Moss Question

I have a cave that looks pretty crap, and was thinking of making it into a moss cave, as well as an easter island head that i was thinking of giving some hair to thumbs2:

My question is, does the moss help with nitrates like the plants do?

Moss is a growing plant and will consume nitrates as a nutrient.

Yes, mosses are plants also. Java moss is not an extremely fast growing plant, but it does grow (and can get VERY big!), and as it grows, it consumes not only nitrates but also phosphates and other minerals that accumulate in any healthy tank over time.

My java moss is constantly having to be thinned out or it chokes my tank.
My fish seem to love it every night at lights out,it gets full of guppies!lol

So I just got back from the LFS, and bought a clump of Java Moss for $5.99
Will post pics with what I have done with it.

Q: When you trim them, will they regrow if you add them to a different tank?

yeah they will, thats how i have tanks full and throw some out. Use fishing line to tie it to what you want..

Java moss spreads even quicker than land based weeds.

So here is part of the Java Moss being used;

We used clear plastic thread to keep everything tied down and stop it from floating away. The moment we placed it back in the tank, our eel and angels thought it was bloodworm and came for a taste.. lol, they were not impressed!

So, I have been making a whole host of 'tank ornaments' for my tanks as more cover, and I now have some excess java moss.. What is the best way to keep this healthy.
Right now I have placed it in a small 1g tank with tank water, no heater or filter or anything. Is that ok?
