I heard that plecos are too rough on real plants and can strip layers off when they feed. Is this true?.......I have one bristle nose pleco about two inches long in my 20 gallon tank with amazon sword, giant hygro, tora val and java fern and I don't see any obvious damage. The plants and the pleco have been in there for about 2 months. Is it that my pleco isn't large enough to cause any damage or is this just a myth?

thanks

The smaller plecs like bristlenoses, bulldog's etc. will not harm the plants...you wil find they like to hang under the amazon sword leaves. It is the pleco tankbusters that tend to damage the plants...

thanks for the reassurance, I'd hate to have to get rid of him.

I have a BN and clown pleco with a lot of plants, java ferns a few varieties of anubias and a val and they stick on the leaves occasionally, but don't damage them.
