How can you tell if the glass/silicone holding the tank together is damaged?

It usually turns to a whiter color if air or water got in between.
Can snap a few pics of the problem area?

Thats not so bad.If the silicone on the inside is good than it should be fine.

How would I know about the inside?

look at it! You can see if the silicone is all cracked,or if its lifting on the edges.
How old is the tank?

You may need to drain the tank to have a look

that looks fine if its not peeling up in the corners it should be fine the main seam looks good
