I just bought a used AC200 powerfilter and noticed it is much louder than my AC150. The noise seems to be eminating from the motor/impeller area. The noise is a hum with a bit of a rattling sound. The unit seems to pump good, just very noisy. So, I took the impeller out and it seemed I could rock the paddle wheel on the shaft left to right a little - is this normal? I'm leaving soon to go out and could pick up a new one or is there a fix for it?(ie glue the impeller paddle wheel to the shaft. Thanks so much for your responses!

I have a hangon, millenium 2000 filter with a similar prob, I have not yet in my small town been able to find the right parts to fix properly, so each time I have the prob, I fix it by gluing with aquarium silicon, this only seems to last a couple of months though.

Thanks, I'll try that first - I'd rather spend the $ on a plant or two...

A search of Ac200 brings up aquaclear 200 hangon filter, if it is a hangon, and you have other means of filtration for the time being, I would definately try the aquarium silicon solution to start with and see how it goes, if it fixes the prob, then buy a spare impeller in the next few weeks.

leave it overnight to dry though

Shake it in your kitchen sink. There just might be a tiny bit of gravel stuff in there.

I agree, I have had the same thing with hair wrapped around shaft, so this could be another possibility.

Me too. Where does that come from? I pick it out with tweezers.

Aquarium gravel and charcoal pieces have gotten stuck as well. Charcoal will break up but that gravel won't. It also stops a garbage disposal in it's tracks! Three times for me now. LOL

Love that response.

A 5 gallon, is that big enough?, they do share that with 3 ringneck parrots and 2 grass parrots and one red crested cockatoo, and 1 wife.

Is that a touch overcrowded?
